Chicago Bears LB Brian Urlacher targets training camp to return to full fitness - NFL News
Chicago Bears started their organised team activities (OTAs) on Tuesday with players starting their training for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
One player who sat on the sidelines though was veteran linebacker, Brian Urlacher, as he continues to recover from a knee injury he sustained late in the 2011-12 regular season.
Urlacher though is not too worried about not practicing on the field with the rest of the defence and is targeting a return to full fitness before the start of the team’s training camp.
Speaking to the Chicago Tribune on Tuesday, he said about his recovery.
"It's getting better. I'm on schedule, so I feel good. At this stage, I know the defence pretty well. I'm not worried about being out there and not knowing what I'm doing.''
After 12 years with the Bears, the linebacker is one of a few players who do not need training to keep up with the changes in tactics and fans should not be too worried if the team’s defensive stalwart is not able to take part in the OTAs.
Adding further he said he is targeting the training camp to return back to full fitness.
"Definitely training camp, I think. The OTAs are not as important.''
Even though Urlacher was not on the field during practice, the linebacker saw plenty at training to be impressed about.
The veteran was especially pleased with the way the team’s offence is shaping up after the addition of some big names in free agency.
Chicago added wide receiver, Brandon Marshall plus running back, Michael Bush to the roster to shore up the offence and Urlacher is pleased with what they have shown in training.
"The ball is gone quick. Jay (Cutler) makes his reads and gets rid of the football. … Our offensive line is good. We're big up front. Obviously Brandon Marshall and Devin (Hester) out there; Alshon Jeffery's good. Michael Bush. I could go on and on about
our guys.''
The main training session takes place during training camp and Urlacher will likely be 100% fit to take part in the preseason.
Last year Chicago ended up with an 8-8 record but this year it is highly doubtful that the Bears will perform as poorly in the new season.
