Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler confident RB Matt Forte will be back for start of new season - NFL News
There is still no news or progress being reported over Chicago Bears running back, Matt Forte’s contract situation.
Talks have remained stalled for months between the two parties since the Bears put the running back on a franchise tender and no breakthrough to a new contract has yet been made.
Forte is currently sitting out the team’s offseason workouts and is likely to hold out of training camp if he is not given a new long term deal.
The contract saga has got Bears fans worried as Forte was one of their best players in offence last season but one player is not too worried about the running back holding out of practice.
Chicago Bears quarterback, Jay Cutler is not too stressed over Forte’s contract situation and in an interview with the
Chicago Sun-Times said that he is sure that the running back will be back in the team for the first day of the new National Football League (NFL) season.
"Last time I saw him, he said he was lonely. I get it,"
He continued further.
"Everyone was gone last year, with the lockout, and you do get that itch to get back in the office and see guys and work out. But Matt's got to do what he's got to do for him. Maybe they get a deal, maybe they don't.”
“At the end of the day, we'll have him the first game. I rest easy at night knowing that Matt is a true professional and he's going to come in and he's not going to miss a beat."
Forte last season had a brilliant season at running back as he rushed for 997 yards from 203 attempts and scored three touchdowns.
His statistics could have been even better if he had not missed the final four games of the season after a knee injury in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Forte’s franchise tender will give him approximately $ 7.7 million for the season if he signs his tender.
It seems unlikely that the Bears and Forte will reach an agreement over a new deal any time soon and the player will in the end have to settle for the tender or miss out the entire 2012-13 season.
