Chicago Bears WR Brandon Marshall never found a great receivers coach in the NFL - NFL News
Chicago Bears this offseason brought in one of the best receivers in the league to shore up their offensive unit.
After a poor 8-8 regular season last year and a misfiring offensive unit, Chicago signed three-time Pro-Bowl wide receiver, Brandon Marshall from free agency to add a much needed experienced playmaker to their offence.
In addition to that Marshall already had built up a great understanding with Bears quarterback, Jay Cutler, in the past when both played for the Denver Broncos.
However, in an in-depth interview with the Chicago Tribune newspaper, Marshall told reporter Jared S. Hopkins that he never had a great receivers coach in the National Football League (NFL).
That is a big confession from a receiver who has played for the Broncos, Miami Dolphins and has now joined the Bears.
Marshall said:
"To be honest (when I arrived in Miami) I was like, 'You know, I need some coaching. Right now I'm coming off my natural ability. I want a coach who's played the position or played the game before, who knows and understands the receivers position. So they
can take me and my world to a whole other level.'”
Adding further, he said.
“I haven't had a good coach as far as that receiving position since I've been in the NFL .... As far as technique and someone who understands the game."
The wide receiver also said that during his stint with the Broncos, he and Cutler built up a great understanding with each other and said that quarterbacks coach, Jeremy Bates, who trained Cutler both at the Broncos and is now working with him in Chicago,
never gave them a play and let the two come up with a plan by themselves on the field.
For a wide receiver who does not believe he has been taught well in the NFL, Marshall’s performances have been brilliant year-in and year-out and rejoining his favourite quarterback at Chicago, fans are looking forward to watching him have a great 2012-13
campaign.
The Bears are looking to make it to the playoffs this year and Marshall will have to bring his A game to the field to help the franchise achieve that goal.
