Chicago Bears WR Devin Hester crucial to team says WR coach Darryl Drake - NFL News
Chicago Bears wide receiver corps got some added depth this offseason with the arrival of former Miami Dolphins wide receiver, Brandon Marshall and the addition of second round draft pick, Alshon Jeffery.
With the addition of the above two players the Bears have nine receivers in their roster.
The huge amount of talent at the position has led to speculation that playing time for receiver, Devin Hester will be significantly reduced.
However, receivers coach, Darryl Drake in a recent interview shot down that speculation by saying that Hester will play a significant role in the upcoming 2012-13 season and a whole package has been developed to give Hester the chance to really showcase
his undoubted talent.
According to ESPNChicago, Drake said that Hester doesn’t have anything to fear with the arrival of Jeffery and he remains one of the Bears important players.
“I promise you Devin’s not reading press clippings about Alshon Jeffery. Alshon Jeffery’s reading press clippings about Devin Hester. Devin Hester don’t give a c**p. He’s gonna go out there and play.”
Adding further he said.
“I’ll say this about Devin Hester, and I’ve always said it: all we’ve got to do is use him and you’ll see what kind of player he is, period.”
Drake continued by saying that the Bears will use Hester in a special package and he will not be used as an every down receiver so that the offence can take full advantage of his unique talents.
"In order for him to be effective we don’t need to have him out there playing that many plays. If he’s out there, put the ball in his hands. We need to have that package, and (offensive coordinator) Mike Tice -- I promise you -- he’s gonna do it.”
The coach also went on to praise the new additions in the wide receiver corps. Talking about Brandon Marshall, Drake called him a student of the game while he also laid out an optimistic vision for the upcoming season for Chicago.
It will be interesting to see how the franchise uses all its offensive options down the field to its advantage and the rest of the league should be aware that this year Chicago means business.
