Chicago Bears WR Johnny Knox hoping to recover in time for new season - NFL News
Chicago Bears wide receiver, Johnny Knox, suffered a severe injury last season as he fractured his vertebra during a game against the Seattle Seahawks.
The injury required surgery to fix and Knox is still rehabilitating at the Bears training facility as he looks to become 100% fit before the start of the 2012-13 season.
However, with his recovery progressing slowly the wide receiver is still not counting out the possibility of having to sit out the entire season.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday after the Bears organised team activities (OTAs) he said.
"It could happen, but I'm staying optimistic,"
Adding further he said.
"My main focus is in that weight room. That's all I'm focusing on. I'm not in a rush [to return]; this is my spine, the core of my body that I'm dealing with. This is not my knee or my ankle or my shoulder ... I'm taking my time on this."
Recovery from such a serious injury will take a lot of time and Knox is not yet cleared to take part in full practice.
For now the wide receiver is jogging and getting muscle strength back as he prepares for the upcoming season.
"They haven't given me a timetable on that right now. I've been out here jogging a little bit just trying to get some muscle memory back, but as far as routes, I'm just working on the little things right now. That, and staying in my playbook."
Knox last season made 37 receptions for a gain of 727 yards and scored two touchdowns.
The Bears ended up with an 8-8 record in the regular season and missed out on the playoffs after losing five games in a row.
Season ending injuries on offence to quarterback, Jay Cutler and running back, Matt Forte, took away much of the Bears attacking threat.
This year though the franchise has added a lot of attacking threat in the offseason and with Knox recovering as well from his injury the franchise’s roster looks good on paper.
Hopefully the wide receiver can recover from his injuries soon and not miss out on the entire season.
