Chicago Bears add DE Shea McClellin with first round pick in NFL Drafts - NFL News
Defensive ends were hot property in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) drafts and the Chicago Bears also went for a pass rusher with their first round pick as they drafted Boise State University’s Shea McClellin with their 19th pick.
This was new Bears general manager, Phil Emery’s first draft pick and McClellin will be a good addition to Chicago’s defence which struggled in the final half of the 2011-12 regular season to keep out the opposition.
Emery was pleased with the addition of the youngster and said that the defensive end will be a great addition to the Bears this year.
“I’m very excited to have Shea become a Chicago Bear. It helped fill a need for us as a pass rusher.”
The Bears who had concentrated on rebuilding the offence with some big free agency moves have now turned their attention to the defence in the first round.
Emery in his talk with reporters after the draft continued to praise McClellin’s abilities and said that the youngster is a natural athlete and has reactions which will be a great asset for the franchise.
“We’re excited about him for several reasons. He’s got really quick feet and hands as a pass rusher. He has natural hips as a pass rusher. He’s a good natural athlete.”
Chicago ended last season with an 8-8 record and missed out on the playoffs after losing two of their star players to season ending injuries.
Quarterback, Jay Cutler and running back, Matt Forte missed out the final games of the season after suffering injuries which required surgeries and long rehabilitations.
The Bears backups were not able to deliver at the same level as the starters and the franchise went on to lose five games in a row which put an end to their playoff hopes.
This year the franchise is looking to rebuild the roster and get back into the playoffs and the general manager feels that McClellin's arrival will be a great boost to the Bears hopes in the 2012-13 season.
“We just feel this was an excellent pick for us in terms of the fit for the Bears and where we want to go moving forward.”
Let’s hope that the pick works out for Chicago and Emery.
