Chicago Bears dominate St. Louis Rams 23-6 despite shaky offence – NFL Recap
St. Louis Rams had a tough day on the field as they lost their second straight away game of the 2012 season on Sunday, September 23, losing to Chicago Bears, 23-6, at Soldier Field.
Despite a shaky offence, Bears were able to provide the game-winning show, thanks to their superb defensive effort that somehow hid the offensive flaws, for the time being.
Rams struggled to generate scoring drives as their quarterback Sam Bradford and his receivers were marked quite nicely by the home team. The Rams quarterback finished the game after completing 18 of his 35 attempted passes while gaining only 152 yards. Bradford
did not get any touchdown and sent two interceptions.
On the other hand, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was also unable to impress many observers. Cutler completed a total of 17 passes of 31 attempts for 183 yards. The Bears quarterback sent one interception.
Bears started their season campaign impressively with a 41-21 win over Indianapolis Colts. Cutler’s performance in that game was relatively better, but he failed to repeat that performance against Green Bay Packers in Week 2 game and again fell short of
meeting expectations in Week 3 game.
Cutler said after the recent victory:
“Not every game is going to be 41-21. We're not going to come out every game and blow the doors off offensively and defensively. This is what is going to be more likely week in and week out."
Rams were exposed on offence as well as defence and it brings the haunting memories of their last season back. They certainly do not want to be caught up in the doldrums and must focus on improving their record. Rams are 1-2 after three games.
Bradford said after the loss:
"We definitely didn't play well today. Give them credit, they played us tough. But I think there are a lot of things when we look at the film that are going to fall on us. Things that we were in control of and just didn't handle. It was a tough game, a lot
for us to learn from and move on as a group.”
Bears controlled the game right from the start. They got a field goal in the first quarter to take the lead that was increased in the second quarter when they got a touchdown, thanks to a three-yard run by Michael Bush.
Rams got their first scoring move of the game in form of a field goal in the same quarter and entered halftime seven points behind the hosts.
In the third quarter Rams further reduced the deficit as they got another field goal, but they could not add more pressure on the Bears, who were out of Rams’ control in the final quarter.
Bears got two field goals and a touchdown in the final quarter to seal the victory.
Rams are now going to face Seattle Seahawks in Week 4 game, while Bears will face Dallas Cowboys.
