Chicago Bears get permission to interview four candidates in search for new General Manager -NFL News
The Chicago Bears have extended their search for a new General Manager with the franchise receiving permission to interview four candidates for the job.
The Bears for now have placed Tim Ruskell in the position as interim general manager and remains the front runner to take over the position permanently.
Ruskell will also continue performing his previous duties as head of player personnel in this capacity.
The four candidates setup to interview for the opening in the Bears' front office are Phil Emery of the Kansas City Chiefs, currently the director of college scouting, Jason Licht, director of the New England Patriots' pro personnel department, Jimmy Raye,
director of player personnel at the San Diego Chargers, and Marc Ross of the New York Giants, who also heads the department of college scouting.
All the names are vastly experienced in their relative areas and will bring some great ideas to the Bears' franchise in their attempt at rejuvenating the team.
The Chicago Bears' official website made the announcement on Tuesday as the Bears look to find a suitable replacement to sacked general manager, Jerry Angelo, who left the franchise, followed by offensive coordinator, Mike Martz, and quarterbacks' coach,
Shane Day.
The incoming GM however, will not be able to bring in his own choice of head coach for another season and will have to continue with current coach, Lovie Smith, for whom, 2012 is a make or break season.
Chicago had a roller-coaster of a season during 2011 and at one time looked well on their way to making the playoffs round.
The team was 7-3 after week 11 of the National Football League (NFL) regular season but lost their way when some critical injuries struck the offensive line.
Star quarterback, Jay Cutler, injured his thumb which ended his season and running back, Matt Forte, also succumbed to a knee injury.
Both players were sorely missed as the Bears contrived to lose five of their following games, finishing with a poor 8-8 record.
Jerry Angelo’s drafts were called into question after the season went from bad to worse for the Bears since the replacements in the offence were not up to the task.
The Bears for now are retaining faith in Lovie Smith and hope that he can strike up a good partnership with whoever takes up the job as GM and guides the Bears to a playoff berth in 2012.
