Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith: remaining games are must-win – NFL News
Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith has conceded that the remaining two games of the season are must-win for reaching the playoffs.
According to Bears’ website, Smith shared his views about the team’s future, and said about their recent 13-21 loss to Green Bay Packers:
"Yesterday's game was a must game for the NFC North championship, but besides that it wasn't a must game as far as what can happen with our season."
The head coach wants his team to win both Week 16 and 17 games against Arizona Cardinals and Detroit Lions respectively. His all concentration is on these games, as they are much important for them.
He said:
“We have to find a way to get to 10-6 and see what happens."
According to him, teams go through such circumstances in every season. They are standing at the position where it is not known whether they will qualify for the playoffs.
Like all other coaches, Smith also wants his team to reach the postseason, he said:
"Every year there are people in situations like this. Unless you've clinched a playoff position right now, you're still having to win football games to get in. But you don't look at all the scenarios.”
To win both of the games, Bears have to perform better and practice a lot, unlike the last three weeks in which they have lost three straight games.
He added:
"It's not an exact science a lot of times. I just know when you're in a situation, everybody that's involved in the play needs to do a better job."
Lions, who are their National Football Conference (NFC) North rivals, are 4-10. Cardinals have a 5-9 record and they are one of the weakest teams of this season.
Both Cardinals and Lions are standing at the bottom of their respective divisions.
On the other hand, Bears have won eight and lost six games in this season, and they are tied for the second position in NFC North along with Minnesota Vikings.
Meanwhile, the Bears have made some roster adjustments. Defensive tackle Matt Toeaina is placed on injured reserve and offensive tackle Cory Brandon is in.
