Chicago Bears’ injury woes continues as Brian Urlacher misses practice again – NFL News
Chicago Bears’ injury list is getting longer and longer as the preseason games comes nearby. Linebacker Brian Urlacher was absent from the practice session on Sunday, August 05, 2012.
It was fourth consecutive practice session that Urlacher has missed since the start of training camp.
Urlacher has a sore knee which was injured last season. He was able to participate in the first five practice sessions of training camp.
Bears’ head coach Lovie Smith explained Urlacher’s condition that he still has some soreness, but they are hoping that he will get back soon. Bears are concerned about the reoccurrence of pain in the knee of Urlacher. Smith said:
"There's concern. But I think I have a pretty good idea of what Brian can do. So if we don't feel like he should go, we'll hold him out some more. But we haven't made that decision yet."
Urlacher had sprained the medial collateral and posterior cruciate ligaments in his left knee in the final game of the 2011 season while playing against Minnesota Vikings.
Before the start of training camp, Urlacher missed the entire offseason minicamp and organised team activities (OTAs) after feeling soreness on his return to full fitness. Smith added:
"It's always a concern when you have an injury at the end of the year and you miss some time in the offseason. But he should be OK. It's not like he really hurt it any more. I assumed he would have some soreness and he would miss a few of these training
camp practices."
Urlacher was drafted by Chicago Bears in the first round (ninth overall pick) of the 2000 draft. He was named the Rookie of the Year for his spectacular performance in his first season.
He has received eight Pro Bowl selections in his career. He was also named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the 2005 season.
Bears’ injury list includes Earl Bennett, Matt Forte, Eric Weems, Julius Peppers and Jabara Williams.
There is a growing concern that Bears will have to put up backup players at many position as they play their first preseason game against Denver Broncos on Thursday, August 09.
