Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould placed to injured reserve – NFL News
Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday.
Gould got injured while warming up for Week 14 game against Minnesota Vikings, the last-minute injury forced Bears punter Adam Podlesh to perform as kicker.
Gould said of his injury:
"It happened on a 53-yard field goal during warm-ups. Something just felt off. Something was wrong. That's when I strained the muscle. So basically, we decided that I could one-step kicks throughout the game, which is why I kicked the extra points.”
The team did not allow kickoffs in the game as they feared it could have aggravated the injury.
According to Gould, it was a good decision of the team to put him on the injured reserve, and sign another experienced kicker Olindo Mare for playing in next three games. He wants the best for his team.
He said:
"The injury put us in a situation where we didn't know exactly when I could come back, so the decision was made to put me on injured reserve and bring in another experienced kicker,"
The 39-year-old veteran has signed a 1-year contract with Bears. Mare has successfully kicked 349 field goals on 430 attempts and scored 1,530 points in his career.
He was originally signed by New York Giants in 1996 as a free agent. In his career, Mare has played for Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks.
According to Gould, Mare will fit in the locker room because of his nice personality, but he has got to work harder on his kicks.
He said of Mare:
"The Bears got an excellent kicker that has kicked in tough conditions all across the NFL. I hope he helps them get to a Super Bowl."
Bears have won eight and lost five games, they are standing at second position in National Football Conference (NFC) North.
Bears have lost two straight games since Week 13, and they are going to play their next game against Green Bay Packers on Sunday, December 16, in Week 15.
Packers are leading the division with nine wins and four defeats.
