Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher defends himself – NFL News
Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher was angry with his fans criticism on congratulating Houston Texans safety Danieal Manning during Week 10 game.
Bears and Texans are among the best National Football League (NFL) teams this season and that was why the game between these two sides was played in a very competitive atmosphere.
During one play, Manning intercepted Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler in the second quarter of the game, after which Urlacher shook his hand with Manning.
The official cameras showed them together, which caused severe criticism from the fans.
While being interviewed in a Radio programme “Waddle & Silvy”, he gave a message to the fans and said:
"I could give a c**p about what people think on the street. Get mad at me all you want, I could give a c**p about what people say.”
He wanted to explain fans that players’ on-field tussle does not continue off the field. According to Urlacher, Texans defence was good and they played really well.
He added:
“I'm not going to take it easy on the guy when he catches the football and not try and hit him because he's a friend of mine.”
Talking about his good relations with his ex-teammate, he said:
"Manning is a friend of mine, he was a teammate for five or six years, and that's the way it is. He made a catch and was running toward the sideline to say something to Coach, so I walked out there."
Talking about criticism after Urlacher’s handshake, Manning said:
“That was pretty funny, he showed me a lot of respect.”
Even Bears’ defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli did not seem happy with this criticism, he believes that this kind of criticism for his players is disrespecting.
He is satisfied with Urlacher’s performance as he is a veteran player, and he knows very well what his players are up to.
At 7-2, Bears are leading the National Football Conference (NFC) North.
