Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher had a knee surgery earlier in January – NFL News
Although it was assumed that Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher had previously refused to have a surgery on his injured knee, it has been reported that he had a knee surgery in January this year.
He went through a surgery just after getting his knee injured during Bears' Week 17 game against Minnesota Vikings.
Urlacher underwent arthroscopic procedure on Tuesday, August 14, 2012. He is eagerly anticipating a return to field, even hoping to start in the Bears season opener against Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, September 09.
Urlacher did express his frustration about all his rehabilitation process that consumed more than seven months, and still he is not fit. The Associated Press quoted Urlacher saying:
"It is frustrating because after seven months you'd think you would be healthy again, but I should be good to go now, hopefully. It's just taken longer than I wanted. I felt really good at the beginning of training camp and I think it just aggravated a little
bit practicing those first few days. It kind of flared up on me, swelled up and there was some pain in there."
Urlacher also agreed with the target date that Head Coach Lovie Smith had given to him, according to which he should be ready to play the first game of the season. Urlacher seemed positive about getting fit before the deadline.
He did accept the fact that uncertainty remained about his injury. Urlacher was unable to participate in the offseason minicamps and any of the Organised Team Activities (OTAs).
Urlacher started first few practice sessions of training camp, but his injury got sore and his knee started to swell. Urlacher accepted that he was hesitant about going through surgical procedure. He said:
"You never want to get surgery, if you can avoid it you want to. But this is kind of the last resort to get it cleaned out and get the swelling down."
Urlacher’s surgery in January raises many questions about why he was unable to return to full fitness even after going under the knife.
