Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher would lie about concussion – NFL News
Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher reiterated on Thursday that he would lie to cover up a concussion.
He first said this last season in a television programme “Real Sports” on HBO.
Talking about Bears quarterback Jay Cutler’s concussion during Week 10 game against Houston Texans, Urlacher explained that since the National Football league (NFL) is taking care of each and every concussion, there is no way anyone can lie about it.
Bears coach Lovie Smith was confident that Urlacher would not hide his injury from him, as he did not hide his knee injury or any other injuries in the past.
He said:
"I don't think players will cover up an injury, so that's what I make of it.”
According to him, the NFL is more concerned for concussions. The player believes that the league must take knee or ankle injuries seriously as well because they can also prove to be season-ending.
Urlacher said:
"I know concussions are a big deal, too. But I think knee cut blocks are a big deal, but that seems to be OK with the NFL. So they're not too concerned about safety."
He mentioned the difference between a head injury and knee injury:
“Huge because a knee injury can put you out for a season, a concussion you may miss a game or two. Huge difference.”
Urlacher thinks that there is some problem with the helmets that results in players getting concussions more often nowadays. The authorities think that they are better but they are not, he said.
The linebacker commented:
“I think the helmets aren’t very good. I and Lance (Briggs) wear an old helmet. We have some pretty big collisions, we don’t get concussed.”
Bears defensive end Israel Idonije agreed with Urlacher that the NFL rules are made for the protection of offence, not the defence.
He is hopeful that the rules and protection department will start taking care of the injuries of defence too.
Meanwhile, Cutler might miss the next game against San Francisco 49ers, as he has to go through some psychological and neurological tests. He did not even practise with the team on Thursday.
