Chicago Bears maul Detroit Lions 37-13 in Week 10 – NFL Recap
Chicago Bears went on a rampage against their National Football Conference North Division rivals Detroit Lions emerging 37-13 victors with an outstanding performance in a feisty encounter that saw two confrontations between both
teams’ players and an ejection of Bears cornerback D.J Moore in the fourth quarter at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.
The Bears dominated the game for the first three quarters with Lions’ struggling quarterback Matthew Stafford’s passes being picked off four times resulting in two touchdowns for the Bears. Stafford was playing through a finger
injury although after the game he was dismissive about the role the injury played in his poor performance and blamed the wind for his problems saying
"Wind was blowing the ball around, and they had a tough time throwing it and we had a tough time throwing it," he said.
Running Back Matt Forte got the games first points with his 6 yard running touchdown on 10:29 in the first quarter. Placekicker Robbie Gould got three points to make it 10-0 six minutes later with a 43 yard kick.
Robbie Gould picked off another field goal in the second period from 35 yards at 14:51. A few seconds later Devin Hester who was unlikely to feature in this encounter with a sprained left ankle looked in great shape as he intercepted
Robert Malone’s punt then ran 82 yards dodging defenders along the left sideline and scoring the touchdown that had the crowd on its feet to make it 20-0.
Lions placekicker Jason Hanson scored two field goals to get the Lions on the score board for the first time during the match at 12:01 from 29 yards and the other at 1:23 from 35 yards in the second quarter bringing the score to
20-6.
The Bears however upped the ante in the third period. Major Wright intercepted Matthew Stafford’s forward pass at 13:16 running and running 24 yards to score the touchdown. The Lion’s chances to get back into the game were over
at 11:24 when Charles Tillman intercepted another Stafford pass to score a touchdown after covering 44 yards and bringing the score up to 34-6. Five minutes later Robbie Gould made it 37-6 ensuring victory for the Bears with a 50 yarder field goal.
Stafford then got into a scuffle with D.J Moore early into the fourth quarter with team mates also getting involved. The former’s forward pass was intercepted for the third time by Tim Jennings whose run was stopped by Nate Burleson.
Stafford however grabbed D.J Moore and shoved him to the ground by his helmet leading to a reaction by Moore and his Bear’s team mates. The scuffle resulted in the officials ejecting Moore from the game.
D.J Moore fumed about the event after the game saying, "When you are going after my livelihood, my neck, and you're trying to hurt me, I just can't let that go.”
Stafford on the other hand claimed innocence telling reporters "He kind of blocked me and I was just trying to get him off me best I knew how. And I guess he didn't like the way I did it. He wanted to ask me about it."
With 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter the Lions scored their only touchdown during the game through Tony Scheffler’s 10 yard run from a pass by Matthew Stafford to make it 37-13.
