Chicago Bears performance report – NFL Special Part 1
The National Football League (NFL) season is almost at its end. The Chicago Bears, who had a strong start to the season, lost their way of late. After Week 14, they were 8-6, standing at second position in National Football Conference (NFC) North.
In this special report we will examine Bears’ performance throughout the season, and have a look at their strengths and weaknesses.
Week 1: Indianapolis Colts
Bears defeated Indianapolis Colts by 41-21 in the season opener. Bears’ offence had an amazing performance against Colts, they completed 9.0 yards per pass and made 3.5 yards per rush.
Bears quarterback Jay Cutler played well, he completed 21 of 35 passes for 333 yards and scored two touchdowns with an interceptions.
On the other hand, Colts’ rookie quarterback Andrew Luck’s debut performance was smashed by Bear’s solid defence that forced many turnovers.
Week 2: Green Bay Packers
It was Bears’ first loss on road. Green Bay Packers showed Bears that they were the best team of NFC North and outclassed Chicago by 23-10.
Packers remained dominant right from the start of the game, their defence did not let Cutler and company go forth and score some points for Bears.
Bears kicker Robbie Gould kicked a 45-yard field goal in third quarter and gained first three points for team. Their running back Michael Bush rushed 14 times for 54 yards but could not reach the end zone.
Cutler did not play well, he was intercepted four times and completed 11 of 27 passes for 126 yards.
Week 3: St. Louis Rams
Credit for victory against St. Louis Rams goes to Bears’ defence that spoiled Rams offence and did not give them opportunities to score. They sacked Rams quarterback Sam Bradford for six times.
Bush had 18 carries for 55 yards and scored a touchdown, Bears safety Major Wright scored a touchdown on an interception return in the fourth quarter.
Cutler did not score any touchdown, and was intercepted once. He was 17 of 31 for 183 yards. Gould scored three field goals in the game.
Week 4: Dallas Cowboys
Bears defence exerted a lot pressure on Cowboys during 34-18 victory. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was intercepted five times.
In this game, Cutler fumbled the ball, which was Bears’ first in the season. The quarterback completed 18 of 24 passes for 275 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Bears offence covered 11.1 yards per pass and 3.3 yards per rush.
Week 5: Jacksonville Jaguars
It was their second victory on road. Bears easily outclassed Jaguars by 41-3. Their defence left Jaguars offence stagnant.
The only three points Jaguars scored were gained by a field goal in the second quarter of the game.
Bears cornerback Charles Tillman and linebacker Lance Briggs scored touchdowns on interception returns in third and fourth quarter respectively.
Cutler threw two touchdown passes to wide receivers Alshon Jeffery (10 yards) and Brandon Marshall (24 yards) in fourth quarter respectively.
He completed 23 of 39 passes for 292 yards with an interception.
