Chicago Bears performance report – NFL Special Part 3
Chicago Bears ended their Week 11 game with 7-3 record, and were standing at 2nd position in National Football Conference (NFC) North.
In this part, we are going to analyse how the rest of the season went for them.
Week 12: Minnesota Vikings
Bears ended their two-game losing streak by beating Vikings 28-10.
Bears running back Michael Bush finally gave a breakout performance. He carried the ball 21 times for 60 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Cutler threw a 13-yards pass to tight end Matt Spaeth, who scored a touchdown in second quarter and took the lead to 25-3.
At the end of the fourth quarter Bears kicker Robbie Gould kicked a 46-yard field goal and sealed the win.
It was a tremendous performance by Bears offence. However, they lost wide receivers Devin Hester and Earl Bennett, linebacker Brian Urlacher, cornerback Tim Jennings, and guards Chris Spencer and Lance Louis due to different injuries.
Week 13: Seattle Seahawks
It was a bad day for Bears as they competed really well during the regulation, but lost by Seahawks, 23-17, in overtime.
They covered 9.0 yards per pass. Cutler threw touchdown passes to wide receiver Earl Bennett (12 yards) and running back Matt Forte (12 yards) in first and third quarter respectively.
Cutler completed 17 of 26 passes for 233 yards without any interception.
Bears defence faced some pressure as they had lost their important players in last victory against Vikings.
Week 14: Minnesota Vikings
It was Bears second meeting with their NFC North rivals Minnesota Vikings, who defeated them by 21-14 this time.
Cutler completed 22 of 44 passes for 260 yards with two interceptions. He threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Alshon Jeffery in the second quarter.
He got his neck injured in the fourth quarter and was replaced by backup quarterback Jason Campbell.
Bears were trailing by 14 points in the final quarter. Although Campbell threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon Marshall, the move came too late to rescue the team.
Week 15: Green Bay Packers
NFC North leaders Green Bay Packers defeated Bears again with a big margin, 21-13.
Bears defence could not stand the powerful plays of Packers, and their quarterback Aaron Rodgers scored three touchdowns in the game.
On the other hand, Cutler threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Marshall in the second quarter. He completed 22 of 44 passes for 260 yards with two interceptions.
Gould sat out of the game as he was suffering from a calf injury. Olindo Mare replaced him and he scored two field goals of 34 yards each in the game.
Bears started the regular season on a very strong note, but collapsed towards the end. They must learn from the failures and make efforts to capitalise on their winning momentum.
