Chicago Bears performance report – NFL part 2
Bears entered their bye week with 5-1 record and stood at first position in National Football Conference (NFC) North.
They continued their winning streak till Week 9 and lost two games with extremely bad performance later.
Week 7: Detroit Lions
Bears remained dominant from the start in a 13-7 win against Detroit Lions.
Bears’ defence barred Lions from reaching the end zone until the end of the third quarter, they just scored a touchdown when 30 seconds were left in the game.
Bears quarterback Jay Cutler threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon Marshall in first quarter to start the lead.
He got sacked in second quarter and hurt his ribs while getting sacked by Lions’ defensive tackle Ndamulong Suh. Cutler left the ground due to severe pain.
Cutler returned after a few minutes and was 16 of 31 for 150 yards.
Bears kicker Robbie Gould increased the lead by scoring two field goals of 39 and 21 yards in first and third quarter respectively.
Week 8: Carolina Panthers
It was a tough game, and Bears played well to get a 23-22 win against Panthers. They started their lead with 7-0, but did not score any point till the third quarter.
At that moment when game was completely in hands of Panthers (19-7), Cutler threw a 12- yard touchdown pass to tight end Kellen Davis and turned fortunes on their side.
After a few minutes, Bears cornerback Tim Jennings scored a touchdown on an interception return and led the score to 20-19.
At 02:27, Panthers kicker Justin Medlock kicked a 45-yard field goal and gained three points for his team, but in the last few seconds Gould kicked a 41-yard field goal and secured his team’s win.
Week 9: Tennessee Titans
It was Bears’ third consecutive win after their bye. They won this game with a big margin, 51-20. They set their franchise record by scoring 28 points in the first quarter of the game.
Cutler threw three touchdown passes of 13, 39 and 5 yards respectively to Marshall. Bears’ defensive end Corey Wootton started the lead by scoring a touchdown on a blocked punt.
Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher became the first defenseman of the franchise to score a touchdown on an interception return.
Week 10: Houston Texans
Texans not only thrashed Bears by defeating them, 13-6, they also knocked out Cutler and took away Bears’ fortunes.
With this loss, Bears broke their six-game winning streak.
Cutler got concussed due to a helmet-to-helmet hit by Texans linebacker Tim Dobbins during second quarter. He finished 7 of 14 for 40 yards with two interceptions.
Bears offence failed to perform and did not score any touchdown in the game. Gould scored two field goals of 51 and 24 yards in second and third quarter respectively.
Week 11: San Francisco 49ers
It was a disappointing second consecutive defeat for Bears, 32-7, against 49ers. Cutler missed this game due to his concussion, and was replaced by veteran quarterback Jason Campbell.
49ers were totally dominant in the game, and they did not let Bears’ offence perform well. Campbell somehow managed to throw a 13-yard pass to Marshall and scored the only seven points for the team in the third quarter.
Campbell was 14 of 22 for 107 yards with two interceptions.
