Chicago Bears put wide receiver Johnny Knox on PUP list – NFL News
Chicago Bears have placed their wide receiver Johnny Knox on physically unable to perform (PUP) list. It is not surprising as Knox is rehabilitating from his career-threatening back injury.
Knox looked very positive during the training sessions in training camp on Wednesday. Knox was very relaxed during his conversation with media. He said:
"I'm still working. I don't have that same burst that I used to have, but that's to be expected with this injury. I'm jogging, moving around pretty good."
While facing Seattle Seahawks last year, Knox got injured after getting a severe hit from Seahawks’ Anthony Hargrove.
He fractured his vertebra and had a surgery due to which he lost 30 pounds. Knox will be doing some light weight exercises and jogging during the camp in order to strengthen his back and increase his weight.
Putting Knox on the active PUP list means that he can be brought out of the list any time during the camp. Yet, in order to do that he must have to pass fitness tests. Knox said:
“Right now I’m setting small goals, taking a little bit at a time. At first I knew it was going to be hard to run. But now I’m running better than I thought I would. I’m getting my weight back a little more, doing heavier weights in the
weight room.”
Bears have a strong backup for Knox, as they have got a second-round pick of this year’s draft,Alshon Jeffery. Apart from the rookie, they have also traded Brandon Marshall.
They have also added some veterans with the addition of undrafted free agents Devin Thomas and Eric Weems.
Knox expressed his feelings about the time he got injured. According to him, it was a dreadful experience. He said:
"Honestly, (there have) been days where I've been down, but for the most part, I always stay positive, stay motivated.”
In his three seasons with the Bears, Knox has covered 2,214 yards on 133 receptions.
Knox has also played in the special teams, for which he was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2009 as a kick returner. It will take a considerable amount of time for Knox to return to his best.
