Chicago Bears rookie LB J.T. Thomas arrested for drug possession - NFL News
It seems that the Chicago Bears cannot avoid drug conspiracies with their players. This time rookie linebacker J.T Thomas was arrested by West Virginia Police on counts of drug possession and driving the wrong way down a one-way street.
The news broke on the same day as it emerged that ex-Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd, under trial for drug peddling had his own hearing delayed. Thomas becomes the second Bears player to be arrested for drug possession this year.
The Linebacker, who was in Morgantown to raise funds for the Epilepsy Foundation was caught by West Virginia police.
The Bears are aware of the arrest and in a statement have said that they will not comment further until more information is released about the situation.
"We are aware of the arrest of J.T. Thomas in Morgantown, W.V.," The Bears said in a statement. "We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the arrest."
Thomas who has his own foundation to promote sports and leadership among children was in Morgantown with friends as part of his “Ready Ready Road Trip”.
The linebacker had previously made a stop in Chicago to surprise a young epilepsy patient with tickets to watch the Super Bowl.
With Thomas’s arrest he becomes another Chicago Bears player in recent months to be under police custody for drugs.
Previously, wide receiver Sam Hurd was arrested when he told an undercover cop in a Dallas steakhouse to supply him with marijuana and cocaine.
Hurd was arrested as soon as he left the hotel premises and was produced in court along with a co-conspirator as both pleaded not guilty.
The trial is currently undergoing and was delayed on February 13th by the court.
The Chicago Bears had a rough 2011-12 season as they missed out on the playoff rounds once again after going 8-8.
The Bears lost five of their last six games as injuries in offence to quarterback Jay Cutler and running back Matt Forte led to an utter collapse of their season.
Chicago is now undergoing a complete revamp with a new general manager in place and will be looking to return back to the playoffs next season.
