Chicago Bears sign RB Michael Bush on four-year deal - NFL News
Chicago Bears continue to boost their offensive options in the current free agency as they signed running back Michael Bush on a four-year contract.
The Bears announced the decision on Thursday, signing the ex-Oakland Raiders star on a reported $ 14 million contract with seven million dollars guaranteed to be paid.
This was the franchise’s second big signing in the current free agency and may not be the last for a team that is looking to get back into the playoffs during the upcoming 2012-13 season.
Bush talked to the media after the deal’s announcement and seemed excited at the new opportunity.
“Meeting coach [Lovie] Smith and the other coaches, it was a great opportunity for me, getting a feel for those guys, and I’m happy I’m able to work with them,”
The running back joined the Oakland Raiders as a fourth round draft pick in 2007 but delivered some of his best performances in the league in the 2011-12 season.
Bush rushed for 977-yards from 256 attempts and scored seven touchdowns after getting some game time with the injury to starter Darren McFadden.
The 27-year-old also added that he is ready to contribute to the team and with the offensive options available is hoping that he can help Chicago make a bid for the playoffs.
“We just signed Brandon Marshall, we’ve got Jay Cutler, and to have a [Matt] Forte on the roster as well, it seems like the team is just going to get better. And then to add myself, hopefully we can make a nice playoff run.”
The Bears are looking to get back into the playoffs after their season faltered during the final stretch due to a lack of offensive options to replace the injured quarterback Jay Cutler and running back Matt Forte.
Chicago were at one time cruising to the playoffs with some brilliant performances but lost their next five games after week 11 which severely damaged their chances of making the playoff rounds and they ended the season with a poor 8-8 record.
However, this year, Chicago are taking no chances and signing stars like wide receiver Brandon Marshall and Bush is a big statement of intent by the franchise.
