Chicago Blackhawks' Defenseman Brent Seabrook injured, day-to-day -NHL News Update
Brent Seabrook, veteran defenseman of the Chicago Blackhawks team, left their Sunday night, November 13, 2011, contest against the Edmonton Oilers nearly midway through the second period after crashing into the sideboards, which was termed as not being a
hit but rather a slip while skating with the puck.
Blackhawks head coach, Joel Quenneville, announced after the matchup ended in which Chicago won, 6-3, that Brent Seabrook had sustained a lower-body injury, which at the moment could not be confirmed minor or significant.
Seabrook was observed to be showing pain in his left leg when he got up and move towards the benches to exit the ice rink in Chicago, which could result in something major for the 26-year-old.
According to Quenneville, he is day-to-day at the moment due to undergoing tests and such measures, which will in the upcoming days determine an actual date of return.
"He's day to day right now", said Quenneville, who wasn't sure if Seabrook would be able to make Chicago's upcoming six-game road trip that starts on Wednesday in Vancouver. "We'll see how he presents (on Monday morning)".
Chicago had just received their other star defender, Duncan Keith, who missed three contests due to a hand injury after he tried to block the puck, which means that he will have more pressure on his shoulders as long as Seabrook is absent.
"Well, we missed (Keith) there for his three games", said Quenneville, whose Hawks earned just one point in those contests. "It's obviously a void with all the quality ice time and in all situations (Seabrook plays). He absorbs those types of minutes and
you appreciate what he provides you".
Drafted as the 14th overall pick during round-one of the 2003 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, Brent Seabrook, is currently in his seventh straight season with the team.
Last season, Seabrook potted 48 points (9 goals, 39 assists) in 82 games and up until now, has seven points (1 goal, 6 assists) in the past 18.
Chicago will certainly need the player in upcoming games as they hope to maintain stay atop the Western Conference with 25 points and continue their quest for the Stanley Cup championship.
