Chicago Blackhawks' Jonathan Toews, Steve Montador fully healthy and ready to go -NHL offseason Update
Chicago Blackhawks had one of their toughest playoffs this year as the franchise dealt with a number of injuries that limited their overall performance. Captain Jonathan Toews and Steve Montador were out with head injuries and fortunately now, are reported
to be fully healthy and ready to go.
Toews was in Chicago to attend a meeting of the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA), discussing with other players involved about their future action for the upcoming negotiations on either renewing or redefining the soon-to-expire Collective
Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
"I feel great," said Toews. "I'm having a great summer so far. It was a pretty nerve-wracking thing (but) taking the time off and not going to the World Championships was really big. I haven't felt or seen anything since so it's good news."
Toews, along with Steve Montador also had a concussion and missed a significant chunk of playing time. Fortunately, the veteran defenseman is also back on his feet and capable of beginning some offseason training with the team.
"I feel like a whole new man," Montador said. "I'm as excited to get this season started as any other, if not more so just because I feel like I'm clear and healthy more than I've been in years. That's really exciting for me."
For Jonathan Toews, missing the playoffs was definitely a disappointment, but something he had to do in order to ensure that further injury would not follow. Playing would just have aggravated the situation even further and could have had him out for a longer
period of time.
Toews did not participate in the world championship as well due to the injury and was not going to take the risk.
"Taking the time off and not going to the world championship was really big because I didn't want to risk it any further," Toews said.
Toews played his shortest career regular season with 57 points (29 goals, 28 assists) in just 59 games played along with only six games in the playoffs.
Chicago Blackhawks were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs yet again, this time by Phoenix Coyotes, and hope to change that next season for sure with a healthy line-up.
