Chicago Blackhawks Andrew Shaw suspended for Fighting during in AHL -NHL Update
Chicago Blackhawks Andrew Shaw, who is currently playing for the Rockford IceHogs, turned a minor league matchup between his American Hockey League (AHL) team and the Lake Erie club into a wrestling match after he took off the bench to fight.
Shaw’s instigation landed him a six-game suspension by the AHL. It is reported that Lake Erie’s Patrick Bordeleau was roughing up Dylan Olsen, forcing Shaw to leave the benches, where he was sitting, and help out his teammate, in a manner which is not acceptable
in any hockey league. The fight between the two was broken up by referees and linesmen, sending both off to the penalty box.
Olsen was also suspended for two games due to the illegal check on the IceHogs player.
He will miss the next matchups against the Grand Rapids on Friday, followed by Milwaukee, Peoria and Houston.
Shaw is a 21-year-old right winger for the Chicago Blackhawks, who is currently playing with their minor league affiliates in the AHL due to the lockout. He was picked up by the NHL franchise as the 139th overall during round-five of the 2011
Entry Draft and played his first hockey year during 2011-2012. In 37 games played with them, Shaw proved to be a key member of the squad by putting up 23 points (12 goals, 11 assists) and 50 minutes in penalty time.
He played the remainder of the season with the IceHogs as well and potted the same stats in 38 games.
The native of Belleville, Ontario, Canada, is currently on a three-year, entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, worth a total of $1.69 million and will make him a restricted free agent by the end of the 2013-2014 NHL regular season.
Shaw has played 10 games with Rockford ever since joining them during the NHL lockout and has a goal and three assists to his name.
It will be interesting to see how the Rockford IceHogs perform without the youngster in their upcoming matchups and how it will affect their performance once he makes a comeback after the six-game suspension after next week or so.
