Chicago Blackhawks Daniel Carcillo looking to get back on Ice -NHL Update
For Chicago Blackhawks Daniel Carcillo, this lockout has had its pros and cons, especially since he is some of the few around the National Hockey League (NHL) who have been still getting a salary and use of team facilities.
The rest are just sitting around or playing overseas, but for Daniel Carcillo, who has been out since last January during a matchup against the Edmonton Oilers in which he was ejected with a serious knee injury, has had the luxury to rest more than he usually
would as there is still no regular season in play.
"You don't usually get the luxury of having this much time to recover and to really get strong," said Carcillo, according to the Chicago Tribune. "It's been somewhat a blessing in disguise. With what's going on with the (labor) talks it just puts me out
in sort of a weird place because I can't really test it fully like I would be able to in training camp.”
It happened in an incident when he made an illegal hit on Edmonton Oilers’ Tom Gilbert, ultimately giving him a bad knee along with a seven game suspension.
"Time is good, but I'm itching to get going and I'm excited about the upcoming year — whenever that may happen," Carcillo added.
Carcillo is definitely one of the most physical players in the league and is a leading enforcer for the Chicago Blackhawks. At the age of 27, the native of King City, Ontario, Canada, has gathered up 84 points (38 goals, 46 assists) in 310 games played,
but the most amazing feats he has achieved up until now are the 1,068 penalty minutes he has.
The left winger was picked up by the Pittsburgh Penguins as the 73rd overall back in round-three of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and has played with teams like Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers and last season with the Chicago Blackhawks.
He still has two years on a freshly signed contract over the offseason, which is worth a total of $1.65 million, giving him $800,000 the first season and expiring after the 2013-2014 regular season.
