Chicago Blackhawks Patrick Kane signs with Switzerland's EHC Biel -NHL Lockout Update
Patrick Kane had let the media know that he was exploring his options to play abroad during the limitless lockout in the National Hockey League (NHL), but wanted to wait until he played any of his cards. The young forward finally made it official and signed
on with EHC Biel of Switzerland’s National League A.
A great thing from his side is that Kane is holding off the decision of going to Europe to continue playing, so that he can participate in a charity event, “Champs for Charity”, which is scheduled to be played on Friday, October 26, 2012, at the AllState
Arena.
"Everyone is very appreciative that Patrick held off going to Europe until after the game,” NHL agent and game organizer Bill Zito said, according to ESPN. “That was a class act and I know the Ronald McDonald House will benefit because of it.”
The charity event will also have a number of other superstar players participating, including Winnipeg Jets captain, Andrew Ladd, Troy Brouwer, Brian Campbell, Kris Versteeg and many others. He will be joining top youngster of the Boston Bruins club, Tyler
Seguin, in Europe.
‘‘Excited and thankful to join EHC Biel in the Swiss league,’’ Kane posted Tuesday on Twitter. ‘‘Looking forward to the experience.’’
Kane was signed on by the Chicago Blackhawks after being selected as the first overall back in round-one of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He has been an integral part of the club thus far and continues to lead Chicago.
Up until now, Patrick Kane has 399 games played under his belt for 369 points (126 goals, 243 assists) and 182 minutes in penalty time. The native of Buffalo, New York, United States, faced some scandals during the offseason as he became a symbol of partying
hard as pictures of his emerged on the net, but continues to be focused towards playing hockey with dedication.
Kane was also a part of the Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup winning team in 2010 and played a major role in their run for the championship by potting 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) in the 22 playoff games.
