Chicago Blackhawks Patrick Sharp still thinking his options over -NHL Update
While many have already made a move to go overseas and continue playing hockey while the National Hockey League (NHL) remains locked out to its 30 franchises around North America, Chicago Blackhawks veteran forward Patrick Sharp is practicing patience on
what his strategy will be in the upcoming days.
Steven Stamkos and most other players of the Tampa Bay Lightning are doing the same, mainly terming the start date of the 2012-2013 regular season to be the deadline when they make their decision to see whether something significant has been worked out by
the stakeholders by then.
There is no surety the regular season will start on time and the annual Winter Classic event is also in a limbo, with the NHL having set November as the month in which they will decide to either keep it on or disable it altogether.
One thing that Patrick Sharp has made clear is that he will be playing somewhere if a lockout prevails, but where is something that he still is yet to decide due to having a new born baby and family in the scenario a major factor.
"I consider myself a hockey player and if the lockout goes on for any significant time I'd like to play somewhere," Sharp said Wednesday, according to the Chicago Tribune. "I'm in a situation where you need to take it day-by-day and week-by-week. I want
to keep my skills sharp. I'm 30 years old and I love playing the game and want to play as much as I can. I've had some contact with friends over in Europe and there's a chance I can go. (But) with a young baby and new family it's still a little early to make
that decision."
Sharp was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers as the 95th overall back in 2001. Since then, he has turned out to be a major asset of the Blackhawks with 69 points (33 goals, 36 assists) last season in 74 games played.
In a total of 567 games played throughout his career, Patrick Sharp has 193 goals and 192 assists to his name for a total of 385.
