Chicago Blackhawks Players Furious over Lockout -NHL Update
There is no surprise in seeing that players across the National Hockey League (NHL) are venting their anger over the prevailing lockout induced situation. While some may be directly signing on to single year contracts with teams in foreign leagues without
making any statements, the Chicago Blackhawks players want the world to know how they feel about it all.
Working out, not in the official Blackhawks United Centre in Chicago, Illinois, team captain Jonathan Toews was especially furious over how the league is treating the players and how franchise owners are turning down any attempts from the Players’ Association’s
side on getting a new labour agreement signed.
"Why wouldn't anybody be angry?" Hawks captain Jonathan Toews said Monday after an informal workout at Johnny's Icehouse West, according to the Chicago Tribune. "It's pretty frustrating how things have gone. I'm definitely not happy about it."
Looking back at the 2004-2005 lockout, which cost both stakeholders the whole season, Toews is just utterly frustrated at the situation and does not know what the future holds for either side as both are unwilling to budge on their stances.
"We saw what the (owners) did in '04-05, and who knows if they're willing to do that again," Toews added. "To me, it's just carelessness. It's them just trying to show everyone that they're the owners and they're the league. They can do whatever they want.”
For the more senior players, they desire to be a part of the league for the years they have left on the ice and with lockouts, time seems to be wasted without any clear reason. The biggest issue for the players, which seems to be reasonably brought forth
by them, is that the league is looking for another 10 percent reduction in their share in team revenues. With a decline from the previous lockout, the players are not willing to back down any more, at any cost.
Most players, including the Blackhawks, term the previous CBA, that came to an end on September 15, one that really lived up to expectations, but the league however, is in no case willing to keep it up and wants a newer, more demanding one instead.
