Chicago Blackhawks Steve Montador to continue getting paid in Lockout -NHL Update
Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Steve Montador will be one of the few lucky players that will continue to reap the benefits of their contracts due to being out of playing due to an injury as the lockout agreement has a clause allowing injured players to continue
getting paid according to their respective contracts.
There is a lot of problems that the players who are situated in the city of their National Hockey League (NHL) franchise if they are not allowed to use team facilities, but luckily, Steve Montador will be able to use all the needed services by the franchise
in order to ensure a full recovery.
The veteran defender played his last game on March 27, 2012, after taking an elbow to the head, resulting in a severe concussion, which has kept his out of the game ever since with no set time for a full recovery.
Obviously, getting healthy and back to playing on the ice is the top most priority for any injured players, including Steve Montador.
‘To the best of my knowledge, I think that’s the case,’’ said Montador. ‘‘Hopefully it doesn’t come to that because I don’t want to be in that position. . . . I don’t want to be injured. I don’t want to not be able to get physical out there and be ready.”
Montador is currently entering his second last year of the four-year, $11 million contract which is supposed to give him a clear $2.3 million amount throughout, including the full use of franchise facilities and arena.
‘‘At the same time, you don’t get a lot of contact [at informal workouts] like you would in a practice, and that’s strictly something where I haven’t had the opportunity. So in a small way, it’s a blessing in disguise if perhaps you have some extra time
off. We’d be starting on Friday, but when we’re locked out, you can’t,’’ Montador added.
Steve Montador is a 32-year-old native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, who put up 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) in the 52 games he played last season before going out with the concussion earlier in March.
