Chicago Blackhawks bounce back with thumping 4-1 win against Detroit Red Wings – NHL Playoffs
Chicago had won just one game in the entire 2013 National Hockey League (NHL) Playoffs Western Conference Finals coming into Game 5 against the Detroit Red Wings. They knew everything would be lost if they were
not able to give it a final push and the Blackhawks surely did amaze by taking down Detroit in a sweeping 4-1 win.
The Blackhawks are now back in the series and will return to the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit to face-off with the Red Wings in Game 6 and hopefully continue with their newly gained momentum to force a final Game
7.
A sell-out crowd in Chicago really worked magic in developing the Blackhawks confidence and hopefully with a new found strategy, they will be able to continue working it.
"Good things come from shooting the puck," Chicago’s Andrew Shaw said. "There's rebounds, there's loose pucks, and we had all guys converging to the net and we just kept picking them up and hemming them in there
and tired them out and we were rewarded."
Bryan Bickell’s fourth of the postseason gave Chicago a 1-0 lead by the end of the first 20 minutes. Daniel Cleary put the Chicago fans on their feet as he tied the game midway through the second phase of action
but it was Andrew Shaw’s tiebreaker at 13:08 on the power play, followed by captain Jonathan Toews’ extender that gave the crowd of over 22,000 a reason to scream with joy. Toews also scored on a power play, this time with Detroit’s Justin Abdelkader out for
cross checking with a minor.
"I thought at that point the game was over," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "They had the puck the rest of the night and we didn't do anything. We weren't good enough tonight at all as far as our plan or what
we have to do to be successful. There was too much space and [the Blackhawks] were freewheeling it around and having fun.”
Shaw finished it off with his second of the night in the third.
Chicago and the Red Wings will meet up again on Monday for the crucial Game 6 competition in Detroit at 8 PM ET.
