Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews all set to hunt down second Stanley Cup -NHL News Update
Only at the age of 23, Chicago Blackhawks captain, Jonathan Toews, has achieved feats in his short career which some players only dream about throughout their life up until they retire. In recent interviews, Toews affirmed his renewed dedication of getting
another Stanley Cup and terms the upcoming season as his time to shine, once again.
In 2009, Jonathan Toews was entering his third consecutive season with Chicago in the National Hockey League (NHL) and worked hard towards their first Stanley Cup championship in over 30 years.
Last year might not have been up to his standards, but he certainly put up career high numbers, scoring 76 points (32 goals, 44 assists) in 80 played games to reaffirm his captaincy.
"You definitely realize how tough it is to do what you did the year before, and maybe that was a blessing in disguise that we did win (in 2010)", Toews told NHL.com. "I don't think a lot of us realized how good we were and how unique our situation was (two
seasons ago). Maybe if you do and you know all those things, and you're a guy that has been in the League for 15 years and has been that close a number of times, you're putting way more pressure on yourself not to s***w that opportunity up”.
Picked third-overall during round-one of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by Chicago, Toews has made a name for himself in the major league.
Now with the addition of his younger brother, David Toews, who has a chance at making the roster with a try-out contract during this year’s training camp; Jonathan Toews can certainly focus on moulding him to become another rookie sensation.
Keeping Chicago on track might be something which Jonathan Toews is focused on doing, but he is not alone. Following a championship run, Chicago could not play up to the standard they had set for themselves, which has them recalling their mistakes.
All set to enter his fifth season with Chicago Blackhawks, it is not hard to see that Jonathan Toews is more confident being his teams’ captain than ever, which could surely make them a top contending team next season.
