Chicago Blackhawks continue rolling with 5-1 win past Columbus Blue Jackets -NHL Update
Chicago picked up their fourth straight win, this time over Columbus as Blackhawks dominated Blue Jackets, 5-1, Tuesday night, March 20, 2012, at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Blackhawks came out strong right in the start which eventually led them to keep the momentum running throughout the contest as Corey Crawford excelled in front of the net with a near shutout blocking 24 of 25 shots.
"We were prepared tonight," said Chicago goalie, Corey Crawford. "You might let up sometimes against a team like that, but we came out right from the start and played hard. That's what we needed, to play hard against this team and win a game like that and
not get away from our game. We've got another huge one (on Wednesday)."
All four wins by Chicago have been four or more points with the final two being five goals, giving them a huge boost in morale for their upcoming games especially with the next being against Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday.
Andrew Shaw, Patrick Sharp and Brent Seabrook picked up three goals straight in the opening period alone after a huge fight between Brandon Bollig of the Blackhawks and Jared Boll kicking off the first.
Patrick Sharp got his second of the night 37 seconds into the third following a scoreless second period on the power play for his 30th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
Marian Hossa fired off the extension shot on another added man advantage with Columbus missing Darryl Boyce at the 4:09 mark. Blue Jackets captain, Rick Nash, was the only player to get a goal for the home team at 12:31.
Taking over the match early was the Chicago strategy which helped them keep control of the match.
"The ability to finish," interim Blue Jackets coach, Todd Richards, said. "The thing that they can do is they can score often and they can score quickly. Over a span of 4 minutes we were looking uphill at a 3-0 game."
Columbus has the next at home against Carolina Hurricanes, a match which they can definitely expect to find hard and most likely another loss.
