Chicago Blackhawks end New York Rangers four-game run with 4-2 victory -NHL Update
Chicago Blackhawks stunned and baffled one of the National Hockey League’s (NHL) top teams, the New York Rangers, 4-2 on Thursday night, February 16, 2012, at the sold-out Madison Square Garden in New York, New York, United States.
Blackhawks finally managed to kill of their losing streak which had been extended to nine straight games, which was definitely a surprise to all the spectators that their win came against a top level team like New York.
Rangers currently lead the Eastern Conference with 79 points and are certainly headed towards the Stanley Cup championship, but a poor performance by them against a loss riddled team sitting at number six in the West with 67 points brings up a lot of questions.
"Everyone was pumped up for this game to kind of prove ourselves, not that we can win a game but we can also beat one of the best teams in the league, too. It shows that this team has potential", Chicago’s Patrick Kane said.
Now that they came out as winners, Chicago has definitely gotten a major boost in confidence which they hope working on in the upcoming games.
"You're up 4-0 in the first few minutes, it can't get any better than that," Kane added. "Everyone got a little confidence out of it, and I think everyone got pretty excited.”
Captain Jonathan Toews kicked off the scoring with his 28th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season while Nick Leddy, Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa fired three more to take the lead to an astounding 4-0 entering the second
period.
Marc Staal got his first of the regular season to finally put New York on the scoreboard while failing to take advantage of a number of power play opportunities while Carl Hagelin added the last of the night, but with less than five minutes remaining in
regulation, the Rangers failed to rebound.
Chicago managed to end their losing streak in a big way but it will be interesting to see whether they can continue winning or not when they face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.
New York Rangers have the next at home against Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.
