Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane fractures wrist, needs surgery –NHL Injury Report
Most likely due to working out in an over manner, Patrick Kane was seen to support a cast on his left forearm on Friday’s opening of the Chicago Blackhawks’ annual fan convention, which was later found out to be a fractured bone which would require surgery
sometime next week.
The exact reason of his injury is not known, but according to the head physician of the team, Dr. Michael Terry, it was due to his vigorous offseason training, which he was extending to bulk himself up.
"Patrick Kane sustained a left wrist injury which came to light recently during his off-season training", Dr. Michael Terry said in a statement released by the team Friday. "He will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a scaphoid fracture. We anticipate
a full recovery in 6-8 weeks and in time for training camp. We do not anticipate any long-term issues".
Kane was a first overall draft pick during the 2007 National Hockey League (NHL) by Chicago Blackhawks.
Hailing from Buffalo, New York, United States, Kane will be entering his fourth consecutive season with Chicago after he makes a full recovery, which is expected in 6-8 weeks after the surgery in carried out.
The 22-year-old has remained very consistent in playing as he missed only two games in his first three seasons.
Kane played 73 games last season as he went out due to ankle injury sustained during a regular season game in December of last year.
He still managed to pot 73 points (27 goals, 46 assists) and has remained a 7-plus point scorer ever since he joined major league hockey.
According to Chicago's head coach, Joel Quenneville, Kane was still looking fresh and well built from all his training even though he was wearing the cast.
"He looks good and I still think he can do a lot of other things to prepare as he's going along", Quenneville said. "We anticipate him being ready to start the season, so that's good news".
Kane potted 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) in 22 playoff games during the 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs, which exposed him as a key contributor for Chicago in their championship win after over 20 years of waiting.
