Chicago Blackhawks geared up and ready for another Stanley Cup run next Season –NHL Update
After winning a Stanley Cup during the 2010 National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs, after over 40 plus years of trying, Chicago Blackhawks, performed in the exact opposite way the following season, as they struggled to even make a playoff spot, one year after
winning the championship.
Blackhawks saved themselves from being entered as one of the most disappointing teams following a Stanley Cup, as they barley slid into the number eight spot of the Western Conference, but lost to Vancouver Canucks in a close seven-game series.
According to Chicago Blackhawks general manager, Stan Bowman, he thinks he has made the right changes to take the team back to the level they were performing back in 2010 as they won their first Stanley Cup since 1961.
"You need to be able to change the momentum, and that's usually with guys who play a certain (physical) style. That's why we've added all those payers while we've kept all our top guys", Bowman said.
Chicago re-signed players like forward, Michael Frolik (three-year, $7 million contract) abd defenseman, Sami Lepisto (one-year, $750,000). He also acquired veteran defender, Steve Montador, from Buffalo Sabes and signed him to a long-term contract.
Bowman also signed a number of other players including Rostislav Olesz, Troy Brouwer, Andrew Brunette, Jamal Mayers, Dan Carcillo, Brett McLean and Sean O’Donnell.
"We got some experience, some size, some toughness", Bowman said about his recent acquisitions in the free agency. "We got a lot of guys with motivation behind as well”.
Chris Campoli, who played in 19 games with Chicago after being acquired by Ottawa Senators, demanded too much money from Chicago, which ultimately led to them not re-signing him back onto their team.
"It was apparent from the beginning that their salary demands were just not in concert with where we see him fitting in with our team", Bowman said about Campoli. "He's not going to be back with us".
With multiple new faces on the Chicago line-up, it will certainly see how they perform together as a team next season as the management hopes that these changes will allow them to return back to their Stanley Cup winning forms.
