Chicago Blackhawks’ goaltender Ray Emery agree new $1.15 million one-year deal-NHL News
Chicago Blackhawks confirmed to have successfully negotiated a year extension in their goaltender, Ray Emery’s contract, which was due to expire later this year.
In spite of some difficulties that had been noted down by the game commentators in the early phase of the talks, both sides have confirmed the breakthrough.
A couple of media reports have quoted anonymous sources disclosing the value of the deal to be worth around $1.15 million.
Other terms remain unknown.
Emery is said to be excited about signing the deal in spite of the uncertainty and confusion earlier.
He said:
"I've been on a few teams the last couple years, and coming in here on a tryout and not knowing what to expect, getting a chance to stay here for another year is exciting.”
Blackhawks took Emery on board on a trial basis in September 2011. He then successfully negotiated a year-long deal with the management.
His first season record totals to 15-9-4, with the goal-against average of 2.81 goals per game. The stoppage record measures .900 per cent.
Emery’s presence in front of the net in 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) season remained dependant on the fitness of team’s regular netminder, Corey Crawford.
He availed the opportunity in stretches whenever Crawford became unavailable due to different reasons.
However, the player is pleased with the planned return of Crawford to the squad.
He said:
"It's good knowing who your partner is going to be and we kind of developed a relationship this year where we work well together."
Despite getting limited opportunities, the player proved his worth in the team and remained at forefront of their victory campaigns.
This was the main reason that Blackhawks awarded him the initial one-year contract, giving him a permanent place in the team.
Again, it is his performance that has played a crucial part in winning another contract extension.
Despite that the team has not officially commented on the successful signing of the deal, the management is said to be pleased with the outcome of the negotiations.
Emery said that he was happy over getting another chance from Blackhawks and aims to further improve on his form.
The Blackhawks have made it to the second round of the league for fourth consecutive time this season.
