Chicago Blackhawks grab second straight with 4-2 win over Los Angeles Kings - NHL Playoffs
Up until now, the Chicago Blackhawks have been riding it easy against the defending Stanley Cup champions. The Blackhawks stayed strong at home by blowing away the Los Angeles Kings, 4-2, taking Game 2 and a dominating 2-0 lead in the 2013 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs Western Conference Finals.
With over 20,000 Chicago fans in attendance, it was a little hard keeping their shooting in control. The Blackhawks easily dominated the first 40 minutes of regulation by scoring while their goalie, Corey Crawford, held on tight by making 29 saves and letting just two go through.
Chicago was outshot compared to Los Angeles as the Kings had 31 attempts on the net with the home team just making 26.
"Whoever is shooting the puck, we feel as a team that we have the confidence that it's going to go in at some point," Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews said. "So we'll keep shooting the puck, creating those chances and trying to take his [Quick's] confidence away."
"We had some nice shots," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville added. "We had some high-quality stuff off the rush, as well. I still think that's going to be an ongoing challenge with him. Some nights they go in."
Andrew Shaw and Brent Seabrook scored back-to-back. Shaw made the opening score of the night with his fourth of the playoffs, while Brent Seabrook got his second after the game-winner in the previous series against Detroit Red Wings.
"It's a high-speed game. If we use our speed, we'll be all right," Shaw said. "We played our game. That's the difference. The guys played good. We all competed for each other.”
Bryan Bickell kept the momentum going with a power play goal 7:11 into the second while Michal Handzus finished it off with Chicago’s fourth straight. Jeff Carter added Los Angeles’ first of the night with a little over a minute remaining while Tyler Toffoli brought them within two. But with just 1:02 remaining, getting two more on Crawford was close to impossible.
Chicago and the Kings will be going head-to-head again for Game 3 in Los Angeles at the STAPLES Center on Tuesday.
