Chicago Blackhawks hand down General Manager Stan Bowman three-year contract extension -NHL Update
It has been two years since Stan Bowman was introduced as Chicago Blackhawks newly appointed vice president and general manager and what a good move it certainly was. Bowman led the team to their first Stanley Cup championship in 49 years in 2010, earning
him a three-year extension, announced by the team on Tuesday, October 4, 2011.
Chicago Blackhawks president and CEO, John McDonough, made the announcement that Bowman had agreed to a three-year contract extension which will keep him on the team well through the 2015-2016 season.
"I am very proud of the direction that Stan has taken our hockey operations group in from the moment he took over the role", John McDonough said in a statement. "Stan's leadership and collaboration with the entire hockey operations group has developed a
strong foundation and gives us the continuity we need as we strive for consistent excellence".
Bowman was then the assistant GM when Dale Tallon was GM and moved up a spot after the latter retired from his position.
"It's quite an honour", Bowman said after the announcement was officially made. "I feel very proud to be a member of this organization. We've come an awful long way".
Under Bowman’s leadership, Chicago Blackhawks took their Stanley Cup championship after a harsh seven-game series against Philadelphia Flyers in the 2010 Finals. Since then, Bowman is committed to taking the team back no matter what stands in the way.
For Bowman, it is a hunger factor for him. Winning the most coveted championship in the hockey world means everything and the world nearly witnessed a repeat after a disappoint season last time during the 2010-2011 season.
Chicago barely made the playoffs by standing eighth in the Western Conference, but put up a good fight against Vancouver Canucks to nearly take the quarterfinal series in a close seven-game decider. It was satisfying to know that they had nearly eliminated
Vancouver, who later on went into the Stanley Cup finals.
With his skill and experience in the National Hockey League (NHL), Bowman continues to be one of the most competition liking GM’s in the league, which makes his team one of the most feared.
