Chicago Blackhawks looking for a repeat of 2010 season after losing first rounds for two times
Chicago Blackhawks, who play in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL), would be looking to do better this season and repeat something similar to what they did in 2009-2010 season, by winning the Stanley Cup.
Since winning the championships, their performance has not been up to the mark and they have not had very successful last two seasons, losing in the first round of the Stanley Cup both times.
2009-2010 season was one of the best in their history as they showed phenomenal performances in the regular season, to top the table in their division as well as the conference with 112 points. He swept aside Nashville Predators, Vancouver Canucks and San
Jose Sharks to reach finals where they defeated Philadelphia Flyers to win the title.
But in last two seasons, the Chicago, Illinois based team has been struggling in the playoffs as they were drawn to play Vancouver Canucks in the first round of 2010-2011, which they lost 3-4 in the seventh game and then in 2011-2012 season, they lost to
Phoenix Coyotes 2-4 in the sixth game.
Joel Quenneville, the Blackhawks’ head coach, knows that there were many expectations from his team and they would look to meet them by regaining the title. They are ready to accept the challenge as he said,
“We know expectations to win are high and getting back to being a champion is the ultimate goal. We're all looking forward to winning and we all know the ramifications if we don't. We welcome that challenge and let's go."
Quenneville is sure that there would competition for the place in the team between his players when new talented players will come in and they would be hungry for success after failing for two years, as he said,
When young guys come in they challenge guys and it keeps everybody fresh. I think it'll be healthy for our team. The last couple of years, certainly with not winning in the playoffs, creates a different appetite for our team going forward.
The 53-year-old former defenseman added,
“It should be a good challenge for all of us."
