Chicago Blackhawks players looking for best deal for union -NHL Update
It is not every day that you have to come out and fight for your rights, but for Chicago Blackhawks players, they are showing full support for the labour union, the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA), in their struggle against the league
and negotiating over a new collective bargaining agreement.
Patrick Sharp, Dave Bolland and Jamal Mayers were some of the Blackhawks that came out and celebrated ‘Blackhawks Day” on Sunday at Wrigley Field. According to them, the players union is asking for a fair price, but the league is unwilling to give them their
rights.
Other than that, Sharp is one of few NHL players that is confident that everything will work out properly and the regular season will start on time, unlike many who are opposing that view and gearing up to play in foreign leagues.
"When you're pushing pretty hard on the ice or on the bike or in the gym, sometimes you think, 'What am I doing this for? — we might not be playing,' " Sharp said, according to ChicagoTribune.com. "But I've got the mindset and the focus that we're going
to start on time. I try not to get too negative. I'm an optimist. I feel like it's something that can get done and there's not a reason to miss games."
Not training and working out would just mean that the players mindset is just one that depends on how others are thinking, but in Chicago, the players are putting down their foot and expecting to play better than ever before no matter what the situation
turns out to be.
"We presented what I would (describe) as an unbelievable offer to owners that would help fix a lot of the problems in the next three or four years," Mayers said.
There are still a couple of months to go before the NHL regular season is set to kick off and for many, missing the training camp or even preseason is not as important. The main thing is having a timely start to the hockey year and giving fans what they
paid to see instead of fighting over issues that can be resolved during the process.
