Chicago Blackhawks stay hot by destroying Vancouver Canucks 5-1 -NHL Match Update
Power plays were a big advantage to which the Chicago Blackhawks capitalised on and eventually took over and destroyed the Vancouver Canucks, 5-1, Wednesday night, November 16, 2011, at the sold-out Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Cory Schneider was in net for the Canucks after Vancouver’s main goalie, Roberto Luongo, is expected to miss a few matchups due to an injury, but fell short on five of 27 attempts during the contest.
Chicago’s goalie, Corey Crawford, on the other hand nearly had a shutout and blocked 28 of 29 shots on his net to keep the 2011 Stanley Cup finalists out.
After a scoreless and penalty-less opening 20 minute period, the Canucks came out strong by scoring first only 38 seconds into the second as Jannik Hansen potted his fifth of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
Ryan Kesler was booked at the 4:06 mark with a minor penalty for tripping Chicago’s, Viktor Stalberg, which gave the Blackhawks a major advantage as Andrew Brunette scored on the first power play.
Alex Burrows followed by leaving the ice with another minor midway through, allowing the Blackhawk’s, Patrick Kane, to pot his seventh of the season on another straight added man advantage.
Chicago captain, Jonathan Toews, continued the scoring to enter into double digits with his 10th of the season 12:40 into the third with less than eight minutes left to play and the home team down by two, putting the 18,000 plus crowd on the edge
of their seats.
Patrick Sharp answered again to speed up the home crowds nail biting as their team was behind three points of tying the match but with a little over five minutes remaining, it was getting harder and harder to imagine the Canucks winning as each second passed.
Steve Montador made the insurance shot to secure victory and their fourth straight coming out of a perfect three-game home stand.
The Blackhawks have another meeting with the Calgary Flames on Friday, November 16, while the Vancouver Canucks, who are still below the playoff line in the Western Conference, will certainly be looking to win when they host the Ottawa Senators on Sunday.
