Chicago Blackhawks take down Boston Bruins in Triple OT 4-3 - NHL Stanley Cup Finals Update There was not any mercy from either sides to kick off the highly anticipated 2013 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals as Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins battled it out with one coming out as the winner after three overtime extensions. Andrew Shaw emerged as the game-winner for Chicago as the Blackhawks edged Boston Bruins, 4-3, in triple overtime in front of a electrifying crowd of over 22,000 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. "The bigger the stage, the bigger the challenge, he rises to the occasion," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "He knows where the front of net is. Doesn't have to be pretty. He's a warrior. He's one of those guys that you appreciate he's on your side and he's relentless." Boston took over the game early on as they were up 3-1 nearly midway through the second but the tables turned in the next four minutes, as Chicago bounced back with the crowd raging in excitement to get right back into the matchup. Boston could never have imagined that they would be barely hanging on at every moment and Chicago taking the match in triple overtime. Bruins’ goalie Tuukka Rask also gave it all by blocking a career high of 59 attempts on a total of 63 attempts on his net. Corey Crawford of the Chicago Blackhawks faced 54 shots and let just three into his net throughout the matchup. "We had the game, up 3-1 in the third," said Rask. "A terrible turnover leads to the second goal and then bad bounce for the tying goal and we just gave it away." Milan Lucic scored his fourth of the playoffs in the opening period and extended their lead to 2-0 at 51 seconds into the second period. Brandon Saad was the only one to score for Chicago in the first 40 minutes of regulation. Patrice Bergeron thought he had secured an easy victory for Boston with a power play goal with less than 14 minutes remaining on the clock, but Dave Bolland’s first of the playoffs and Johnny Oduya’s equaliser got the job done for them. Game 2 between Blackhawks and Bruins is on Saturday in Chicago at 8 PM ET.
