Chicago Blackhawks wins 3-2 against the Pittsburgh Penguins- NHL Update
The second last game and the second game to go into shootout was the Chicago Blackhawks playing host to the Pittsburgh Penguins at the United Centre. The game was very eagerly awaited as the Hawks tried desperately to come up with win so as to make it into
the play-offs.
Both teams were level at the start of the final period. During the final 20 minutes of play, both teams scored a goal apiece and the scores were level once again. The game went into overtime where no goals were scored. However, during shootout the Hawks
were productive and won the game 3-2 in the end. Patrick Sharp of the Hawks was named the star of the game for his opening goal.
The defending champions were on the back foot at the start of the game with the Penguins dominating the game in terms of possession and shooting. They gave the home team no space to work which resulted in them producing almost nothing at the start.
However, the Hawks showed signs of being the champions as they stepped up their game and fired shots on goal too. Unlike their counterparts, the Hawks were successful in scoring in the 11th minute through Patrick Sharp from a well placed flick
shot.
The period after the goal was totally dominated by the Hawks in terms of possession, shooting and passing. However, they weren’t able to score any goals nor were the Penguins able to take advantage of the few chances they got. The period ended with the Hawks
leading 1-0 as the teams went into the break. During the period, the Hawks made 13 goal attempts while the Penguins made 7 goal attempts.
The second 20 minutes of play kicked off with the Hawks continuing on the dominating roads. Chances started to come each team’s way from the beginning of the period. However, there weren’t any goals during the start of the period.
The Penguins got better and better with the passage of time and it was not until the 14th minute that we saw the next goal. The goal was scored by the Penguins through Matt Cooke from a well placed flick shot. There were several shots on goal
after this but once again neither of the teams was able to bag a goal.
The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 with the Penguins making 11 goal attempts while the Hawks made 8 goal attempts.
The final period saw both teams coming up with a decent effort that saw them creating chances for them. It didn’t take long as the Hawks scored in the second minute through Bryan Bickell from a well placed shot to get into the lead.
The period saw a drought of shots but with the passage of time things got better and the Penguins got stronger. Offensively dominating the game, the Penguins finally managed to score in the 17th minute to level the scores once again.
The goal was scored by Brett Sterling from a decent strike. The period saw a few more goal attempts but none found the back of the net. The period ended with the scores level on 2-2. During the course of the final period, the Hawks made 8 goal attempts while
the Penguins made 7 goal attempts.
The game went into overtime where no goals were scored. However, Patrick Kane’s only goal during shootout proved to be the difference as the Hawks won the game 3-2 in the end.
