Chicago Blackhawks wins 4-3 against the Phoenix Coyotes after shootout
United Centre was the venue on Sunday as the defending champions Chicago Blackhawks hosted the Phoenix Coyotes. The Hawks were looking to notch up their third straight win while the Coyotes were looking to win after losing their last game.
The game was an offensive battle right from the start which saw both teams starting the final period with the scores level on 3-3. However, the final period didn’t see any goals being scored and the game went into overtime. No goals were scored during overtime
but the Hawks emerged as 4-3 winners of the game after shootout. Jonathan Toews was named the players of the game as he scored twice making countless shots on goal that helped the Hawks to disturb the opposing defence.
The Hawks made a brilliant start to the game which saw them piling up early pressure on their opposition. It was only a matter of when they would score. The strong plays and some skillful work up front saw the Hawks taking the lead with a goal scored by
Jonathan Toews in the third minute.
The Hawks continued to pile pressure while the Coyotes came up with a few shots in between. However, there were no goals during this time. The defending champions put the foot on the gas and scored once again in the 17th minute with Toews scoring
once again during the power play this time.
The period was on a whole dominated by the Hawks who went into the break leading 2-0. During the course of the period, the Coyotes made 8 goal attempts while the Hawks made 17 goal attempts.
The Coyotes showed glimpse of the recent success as they came up with a very strong offence and game plan that saw them scoring in the third minute to trail by a single goal. The goal was scored by Andrian Aucion from a powerful strike.
The Hawks managed to come up with brilliant move in the 9th minute which saw them scoring through Marian Hossa during power play from a brilliant flick shot.
The Coyotes came across a power play a few minutes later which saw them scored through Keith Yandle from a powerful strike to tail by a single goal. The Coyotes scored once again in the 18th minute through Martin Hanzal from a backhand shot to
level the scores. The period ended with the scores level on 3-3 with the Coyotes making 14 goal attempts while the Hawks made 9 goal attempts.
The final period wasn’t as strong offensively as the second period with the Hawks making 12 goal attempts during the period while the Coyotes made 5 goal attempts during the course of the period. The score at the end of the period was level on 3-3.
The game went into overtime but no goal were score during the extra five minutes of play. The game went into shootout as a result. Jonathan Toews goal once again proved to be the difference as the Hawks won the game 4-3 in the end.
