Chicago Blackhawks wins by 4-3 against Columbus Blue Jackets in a shootout after a goalless overtime
Columbus Blues Jackets hosted defending Stanley Cup champions, Chicago Blackhawks, at the Nationwide Arena this Friday which saw Hawks winning by 4-3 in the end after a shootout.
Hawks needed the win to stay in the cut as it occupies the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
On the other hand, Blue Jackets is out of contention and was playing as spoilers.
The game started off with Hawks dominating the early stages of the game which resulted in it scoring twice during the period.
Blue Jackets also made a couple of shots on target and scored a goal. Blue Jackets continued to dominate the game and scored the lone goal of the second period to level the scores.
The final period saw both teams contesting evenly which saw them scoring a goal apiece.
The score at the end of regulation time was level on 3-3 which took the game into overtime where there were no goals but Hawks emerged as 4-3 winners after the shootout.
Anton Stralman of Blue Jackets was named star of the game as he came up with three assists.
Hawks was the stronger of the two teams in attacking despite being the away team.
It was rewarded for its efforts with a goal in the third minute, scored by Patrick Kane from a well placed flick shot.
Hawks continued to dominate the game in the department of offence and scored once again in the sixth minute through Brent Seabrook during a power-play to double its lead.
Blue Jackets was able to pile up some decent attacks and managed to score a goal as well. The goal was scored by Maksim Mayorov from a decent tip-in shot.
There were several shots on goal by both teams but no further goals were scored as the period ended with Hawks leading 2-1. During the period, Hawks made 10 shots on goal while Blue Jackets made 15.
The shots kept on being fired but it was Blue Jackets that was the dominating force in the period once again. It successfully scored in the 15th minute through Derrick Brassard’s powerful strike to level the score.
Blue Jackets had several scoring chances but it was unable to score any goals and the period ended with the scores level on 2-2.
Hawks made 7 shots on goal during the period while Blue Jackets made 14 shots on goal.
There was a drought in terms of shots on goal but Blue Jackets scored in the 14th minute through Samuel Pahlsson. Hawks scored in the 15th minute through Bryan Bickell’s well placed flick shot to level the scores.
The period ended with the scores level on 3-3 and the game went into overtime. There were no goals in overtime and the game went into a shootout from where Hawks emerged as 4-3 winners.
