Chicago Bulls Coach Tom Thibodeau will get a contract extension; says GM Gar Forman – NBA News
Reigning NBA Coach of the Year, Tom Thibodeau`s future at the Chicago Bulls still remains uncertain as no extension deal has been made between Tom and the Bull`s management so far. However in a recent interview, Bulls general manager
Gar Forman addressed this issue and has made it very clear that they regard Tom and his staff very highly, and would love to see him as the Bulls coach beyond his initial two year contract.
While staying on the matter of why Coach Tom`s contract has not been renewed yet, Forman said that talks were held before the start of the season for Thibodeau`s contract extension and these talks will resume after the season comes
to an end.
Hopefully both parties will reach an agreement as the Bulls players would love to see Tom remain at the head coach position.
"To us it's a non-issue," Forman said on "The Carmen, Jurko & Harry Show" on ESPN 1000. "Obviously we think very, very highly of Tom and his staff. Jerry (Reinsdorf) even come out and said it, we're hopeful Tom will be our coach
here for a long, long time.”
Tom Thibodeau had no prior coaching experience before joining the Bulls and had a lot to prove to everybody, who saw him as an unworthy candidate for the position. However, Tom silenced all his critics when he led the Bulls to
the top of the league last season and became the fastest coach to reach 100 wins in NBA`s history this season.
Also this year, Thibodeau`s Bulls have been the number one team in the league for most part of the season, despite having to play around 17 games without their star point guard Derrick Rose. Such has been his impact on the side,
that the Bulls have been a force to reckon with even without Rose and Tom is the most likely to repeat the ‘coach of the year’ feat this season as well.
When asked about his contract dilemma a few days ago, Tom seemed at peace over the situation and played down all speculations of being unhappy with the Bulls.
"I don't know where that's coming from," Thibodeau said. "I'm not worried about any of that stuff. I'm under contract. I'm fine with everything here."
Thibodeau`s career with the Bulls has been a pinnacle of success so far and this is because of the the trust relationship he has built with his players. With stars like Carlos Boozer and Rose demanding a contract extension for
their head coach, Bulls management might have to resurface those contract negotiations talks pretty soon.
Thibodeau signed a two year deal with the Bulls which expires at the end of this season. After such a successful journey, everybody from the management to the players to the fans want Thibodeau to stay at the head coach position.
Tom himself has shown no intent of leaving and is most likely to remain with the Bulls even after this season.
