Chicago Bulls Taj Gibson determined to add to his game in the offseason – NBA Update
Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson has signalled his intention to work at his game and come back a much better player next season. The Bulls reserve said he will be working throughout the offseason and improving certain aspects of his game in order to be more
effective for the Chicago Bulls.
Gibson came to the fore in the playoffs series against the Philadelphia 76ers after centre Joakim Noah was injured. Taj was given extended minutes in Noah’s absence and he toiled hard in a struggling Bulls side that was knocked out in 6 games.
While Gibson can be exonerated any blame for Chicago’s loss as the whole team suffered after injuries to Noah and super star Derrick Rose, the player is still determined to become a more viable option for Chicago.
He intends to focus on his post play in the summer so that he can be of more value to the team going forward. He was used in the post by Chicago during the post season and that’s where he has gotten the confidence to focus more on that aspect.
"My next thing I was planning to do for next year is probably just work on my post (game)," he said. "I got more comfortable in the post late in the playoffs, they were going to me a lot more, (I was) playing with a lot more efficiency as far as my jumper
because I felt like my jumper kind of slipped away (compared to) where it was my second year.”
The lack of a reliable jumper has made Gibson a predictable player and easier to defend, that’s why the forward believes he will have to work on his shooting as well. He revealed that he had already been practicing and hoped he could become the offensive
weapon his coaches want him to be.
“I felt I needed to work on it a little bit more. But I've been in the gym already with coach Ed Pinckney, just shooting a lot of 15 footers try to extend my range because most of the coaching staff feels they see me stepping out towards the three (point
line) just letting it go.”
Chicago currently use Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer as their starting big men.
