Chicago Bulls desperately require a shooting guard to compete for the NBA title – NBA Special Report
After the Michael Jordan era, the once mighty Chicago Bulls struggled to make an impact for over a decade. However, it all changed last season, when Derrick Rose took over the league. After leading both the East and West in the
regular season, Chicago raced away to the Eastern Conference Finals against the mighty Miami Heat.
However, pitched up against the likes of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, the Bulls managed to win only one game and crashed out of the title contention. The 22 year old Rose, who was honoured with the Most Valuable Player
award in the regular season, couldn’t sustain the pressure singlehandedly on the big stage. Even though Derrick continued to provide fireworks but he was all alone. The Bulls had literally nobody in the shooting guard position and Wade made sure that the Bulls
feel the pinch.
Miami Heat emerged victorious in the Conference finals and took the East. What emerged out for the Bulls though was that they need a reliable shooting option in their line up to complement Rose and that too at the shooting guard
position.
In order to compete for the Championship title next season, Chicago Bulls desperately need a dynamic shooting guard who can provide support to Derrick. At the moment, the NBA Lockout is in process however the Chicago needs to address
the shortcoming swiftly once the league comes back to the business.
Here are the two best options for the Chicago Bulls to go with that can benefit the team most.
Monta Ellis
The Bulls can trade for Golden State Warrior’s combo guard Monta Ellis who is undoubtedly the most prominent shooting guard available. The scoring machine of the Warriors averaged 24.1 points per game in the last season and if
he can team up with Rose, the duo will make the most formidable guard combination in the league.
Ellis is a nimble mover and is very handy on freeing up a number of scoring opportunities for his teammates. However, he does have some weaknesses in defence, but that can be catered for once he gets to be the part of one of the
most robust defensive systems of the league. At the age of 25, Ellis has shown great potential and if makes it to Chicago, his championship dreams and that of the Bulls could soon become a reality.
O.J Mayo
The Memphis Grizzlies’ shooting guard O.J Mayo is another good option for the Bulls to shore up the gap. At the moment, Chicago use Ronnie Brewer and Keith Bogans to play defence while Kyle Korver is encouraged to take the shots.
Having Mayo in the line-up, the Bulls can expect the same production from a single player. Even though Mayo didn’t live up to the expectations for the Grizzlies, however under the guidance of Chicago’s coach Tom Thibodeau, the shooting guard can be a valuable
asset for the team.
