Chicago Bulls dethrone the San Antonio Spurs as the best team in the league
The Chicago Bulls finally accomplished the quest of hunting down the San Antonio Spurs for the best record in the league. The men from the windy city achieved the feat by beating the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday night while the
Spurs were overpowered by the Phoenix Suns.
Chicago guard Ronnie Brewer had proclaimed last month. "We're trying to win as many games as we possibly can because we know it's a tough race in the East. We're not just striving to be the first in our conference. We're trying
to go out there and get the Spurs and have the best overall record in the league."
He and his team were true their word.
The Bulls now hold the recognition of the best regular season side, both among the Eastern and Western Conference teams. They have clinched 62 victories this season, most by any team in the league, and have lost only 20. Apart
from topping the conference and the division, the Bulls also lead all teams in the road record, and share the best home record with the Spurs.
Since the culmination of Michael Jordan’s championship era in 1998, this is the first time that the Bulls are having a phenomenal season as they march forward impressively into the postseason. The team ended the regular season
on the highest note with nine straight wins and they are fully determined to carry the action into the postseason that begins from Saturday.
In the last game, the shooting guard Kyle Korver exploded off the bench and landed a team-high 19 points for a thrilling 97-92 victory over the Nets. The All-Star guard Derrick Rose racked up 15 points as the team sealed their
ninth successive victory.
Rose, who is the runaway favourite for MVP this season, is already looking forward for the playoffs and said after the game. "I'm happy, I'm definitely happy. I wouldn't like to be on a losing team, but what's the point of celebrating
now when you can get knocked out in the playoffs?"
Accompanied with the innovative rotations and strategies of their first year coach Tom Thibodeau, and the brilliance of their third year guard Derrick Rose, the Bulls are considered as the toughest contenders for the championship
title this year.
The line-up will be facing the eighth-seeded Indiana Pacers in the first round of the postseason for a seven games series. Although the Bulls are stronger on the paper and also have the momentum to spur them on, the Pacers do have
players like Danny Granger and Tyler Hansbrough who can scorch the opposition on a given day.
