Chicago Bulls down New York Knicks 110-106 after surviving a late surge: NBA Recap
Carmelo Anthony and three others were thrown out of a foul filled game as Chicago Bulls held off a fourth quarter rally by the New York Knicks to hand them a 110-106 defeat, their second win over the Knicks this season.
Anthony was ejected in the fourth quarter when he received his second technical for arguing his case with the referee. But he did not leave before scoring 29 points. Knicks coach Mike Woodson followed him soon when he also had
a few words with the referee on Anthony’s ejection. Raymond Felton had 21 points 6 rebounds while J.R. Smith came off the bench to add a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds, that included a buzzer beating three pointer at halftime.
The drama was not finished yet, Joakim Noah and Tyson Chandler got tangled with each other and were both thrown out of the game as well. Noah had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Bulls; Luol Deng collected 29 points and 13 rebounds
while Marco Belinelli posted 22 points and grabbed 7 rebounds for the night.
"I don't think they're used to being down that much. If they were up 20 points, I don't think they would've been that frustrated. We'll be playing this team a lot and they're a very good team. They played very hard and I'm just
happy we won right now." said Noah.
Bulls got off to a great start and raced to a 14-2 advantage as the Knicks never got in front the entire game. Chicago were pulling ahead at breakneck speed and they were up 30-17 later in the quarter when Smith scored 6 straight
points to cut the gap.
If New York have difficulty in making their shots from inside the ring, they retreat to their safe zone of three point land. But tonight Bulls outshone them from distance as well and shot 44.4 percent compared to 30.8 percent shooting
by the Knicks and the Bulls were leading 54-39 at halftime.
Kirk Hinrich sank a three pointer early in the third period to have the Bulls ahead on 61-43. Later on another Hinrich shot from behind the arc pushed their lead to 68-47 and the Bulls were up 83-61 by the end of the quarter.
The Knicks started cutting into the gap in the fourth period with Jason Kidd leading the charge. They kept scoring baskets at regular intervals and reduced the deficit down to 92-101 with 2:06 on the regulation. Alarm bells started
ringing for the Bulls as Knicks made it a 5 point game with 13.1 seconds on the clock, but they could not come closer than 4 as the Bulls dropped the Knicks 110-106 eventually.
